“White World” reflects her love of winter and snow. “Vermont Covered Bridge” shows her skill in rendering complex structures and handling light. “Dawn Came” lends itself to a variety of optimistic interpretations about light overcoming darkness. “Sleeping Calf” reflects her work in intaglio (in-TAL-ee-oh), a relief-printing process. This first group of works includes prints Huntley made in the 1940s, before she and her family moved to Florida. This exhibition shows her strengths as a meticulous artist, who often revisited subjects and deserves to be rediscovered. Her work fell out of fashion near the end of her career, when the art world embraced abstraction and trended away from realism. Nature, especially the Everglades, was a common theme during her time in Florida, where she created many lithographs of bird life. It also shows her different areas of interest: landscape, human figures and close-up views of the natural world. Her work can be divided into three periods, based on her earlier life in the North, her residence in Florida (1946 – 53) and her return North. Major museums across the country purchased her work, as did many collectors. She produced more than 100 lithographs and a small number of intaglio prints from 1930 until her death. It doesn't match the rest of the game and it doesn't fit the period.During the 1930s and 1940s, Victoria Hutson Huntley (1900 – 1971) was one of America’s leading lithographers. To me the current map does not look like any mobile game, but it does look like a 1998 high school textbook, it's just bad design under the aegis of "user friendliness". I understand they simplify for clarity and UI friendliness - but surely they could strike a balance like Imperator, where you can see the geography "through" the political map to some degree, even zoomed out, and include some stylistic detail which doesn't impair understanding.
(I actually very much dislike the CK3 font too, but again at least I can see where they were going for "medieval" with it.) And if there was one thing Victorians were not afraid of, it is excessive detail they never simplified anything, but the political map in Vic3 has no detail at all, no labeled cities, physical features, rivers, any of the enormous amount of detail I associate with Victorian maps.
